2007/08 District Accomplishments
- All schools received an Academic Performance Index above 800 and exceeded all Federal NCLB Adequate Yearly Progress targets
- Implemented Step-up-to-Writing as the District writing program
- Purchased new textbooks for K-6th grade Math, K-5th grade Social Studies, and K-7th grade Science
- Implemented new textbooks for 6th-8th grade Social Studies and 8th grade Science
- Maintained reduced class size in Kindergarten through second grade
- Offered summer school at Rancho-Starbuck Junior High School to meet the needs of students
- Working with the Lowell Joint Education Foundation, offered after-school sports at Rancho-Starbuck Junior High School and reinstated Academic Excellence Day
- Enhanced employer/employee labor relations through the formation of the District's budget Committee and Health Benefits Committee
- Received Los Angeles County Office of Education approval of the District's budget
- Received a state grant to expand food service offerings during a healthy morning snack break
- Completed installation of a wireless network throughout the District in order to enhance the use of technology in the classroom
- Upgraded the library computer system and hardware at all elementary schools
- Repainted and recarpeted interiors of selected classrooms throughout the District
- Painted the outside of classroom buildings and classroom interiors and obtained a grant for new Kindergarten playground equipment at Meadow Green Elementary School
- Replaced fascia and, working with the PTA, installed new Kindergarten playground equipment at Macy Elementary School
- Obtained state approval for participation in the deferred maintenance program
- Completed over 2,000 work-order requests throughout the District in order to address safety issues and improve cleanliness in the classrooms and restrooms
- Provided professional development training for teachers, classified staff members, and administrators
